Beatificatie

Beatificatie is a practice within the Roman Catholic Church.  Only the pope can beatify someone.  One of the requirements for beatification is the authentication of a miracle attributed to this person.  A miracle is not required for a martyr.  The title “Venerable” is a step in the process to beatification.

Beatification is the first step in the process of canonisation.  For this, at least two miracles must be attributable to the person.

An important difference between “Blessed” and “Saint” is that a Blessed is significant for a local church, region or congregation, while a “Saint” is significant for the worldwide Church. (Wikipedia)
